Prom Dress Drive

New and Gently-used formal dresses are sought for Prom Dress Drive at Yorktown High School for teenage girls. Recycle, help YHS girls save $

The Yorktown High School Prom Dress Drive is underway and needs help assembling a glitzy inventory.

The organizers are seeking new and gently-used prom, bridesmaid or formal dresses that can be given to Yorktown high school girls who need something special to wear for the big occasion. Going to a prom is expensive and for many the cost of a dress gets to be too much.

This new project is an initiative of Claudine Raniolo, who works in the YHS library, and other staff and students, who hope to help girls find a dress (and accessories) they love. And, it is a great way to recycle unused garments and help others at the same time.

So search your closets and attics for dresses that aren't damaged or have excessive stains as well as accessories such as shoes, handbags and shawls. Dresses must be appropriate for teenage girls going to the prom. At a later date girls will be allowed to sign up for a private appointment to survey the racks, try on a dress and make a selection.

But right now the need is for inventory. Items may be dropped off to a box near the high school front door from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m Monday through Friday. Label items for the "Prom Dress Drive" and put them in plastic bags with hangers if possible. Remember that Yorktown schools will be on a winter break from Feb. 20 through Feb. 24 so drop off during this week will not be possible.
