Renovation, Update of Jefferson Valley Mall Discussed

Plans to renovate and update the Jefferson Valley Mall are in the preliminary discussion stage, a mall spokesman said this week.

In a related development, mall management has announced that Buca di Beppo will open its first eatery in Westchester County at the Yorktown retail center during the 2012 holiday season.

“Welcoming this new restaurant concept is a major boost to our dining options at Jefferson Valley Mall and will give our consumers a wonderful local establishment to enjoy delicious dishes with family and friends,” said Ken Hamilton, who became the mall’s general manager June 4. “We are pleased to bring Buca di Beppo into the retail mix … and look forward to its opening later this year.”

Reports of the proposed renovation followed an informal meeting this month between town officials and representatives of Simon Property Group, the Indianapolis-based corporation that owns the mall. No formal announcement was made after the meeting but Citizens for an Informed Yorktown posted a report on its Web site.

Kevin Ryan of Ryan & Ryan PR Inc., Simon’s spokesman in the Northeast, said the renovation concepts were too preliminary for an official announcement. 

The mall has occupied the site south of U.S. Route 6 between Lee and Hill boulevards for nearly three decades and was most recently renovated in 2002. Its directory lists some 90 specialty shops, anchored by Macy’s and Sears, with a 400-seat food court, according to its Facebook page.
