UPDATE: Somers Man ID'd in Labor Day Yorktown Drowning

The beach was closed and signs were posted that swimming was not allowed.

UPDATE—Tuesday, September 6, 2016, 3:30 p.m.:

YORKTOWN, NY — The body of a man who fell into Sparkle Lake Labor Day was recovered.

Yorktown Police said the victim was Darrin Dyckoff, 28, of Amawalk.

Police said they were summoned to Sparkle Lake September 5 around 2 p.m. after receiving a report of a man who fell into the lake.

Witnesses told officers that a man who had been seen on a rubber raft had apparently fallen into the lake and was yelling for help.

Bystanders attempted to help him but could not locate him after he went under the water.

Members of the Yorktown Fire Department dive team, the Mahopac Falls dive team and Mohegan Fire Department rescue were summoned to the scene.

They were unable to locate Dyckoff by nightfall.

Around 8 a.m. September 6, the State Police Underwater Recovery Team responded to the scene.

They recovered his body at approximately 9:50 a.m.

Dyckoff’s remains were removed by the Westchester County Medical Examiner.

The incident occurred at a town beach that was closed and had no swimming signs posted.

YORKTOWN, NY — Yorktown Heights Fire Department divers are searching for a man who disappeared after floating on an inflatable raft on Sparkle Lake.

The Labor Day incident happened around 2 p.m. at the town beach which had signs posted that the beach was closed and that swimming was not permitted, according to the Journal News.
