Sing Sing Oral History Project Looks for Online Support

Contributions Needed to Capture Stories of Former Corrections Officers on Video

The photo is of a recent “Old Timers Reunion” held on the last day in June every year at Sing Sing. Many former corrections officers will be interviewed when they come back for this year’s event on June 30.

Preserving the rich history of Sing Sing Prison through the stories of those who have worked behind the walls of “The Big House” is the objective of the Sing Sing Prison Oral History Project. Online financial support is being solicited via Rockethub.com, a crowd funding platform that allows people interested in the future of the Sing Sing Historic Prison Museum to easily contribute.

The project will begin by filming Correction Officers at their annual Old Timers reunion which is held every year at the facility on the last Friday in June. “The history of Sing Sing is not complete without the inclusion of these voices,” said Arthur Wolpinsky, Facility Historian, who is spearheading the video project and conducting many of the interviews. “The oral histories we collect will become a very important part of the documentation underlying the fascinating story that will eventually be told by the museum.”
