Solar Panels Now Operational at Somers Library

The unit was turned on during a ceremony.

SOMERS, NY — A new solar system, donated to the Town of Somers, was turned on at the Somers Library during a ceremony Thursday.

The town placed the 5.2 kilowatt system that has 20 solar panels on the library after it was donated by Direct Energy Solar.

Solarize Somers was part of the Solarize Westchester program which launched in October 2015, and Direct Energy Solar donated a new system to the community to show its commitment.

The array was been installed on the roof of the library building and is visible from the ground.

It is estimated that in one year the system will produce 5,278 kilowatt-hours, which is the equivalent of offsetting 8,178 pounds of carbon dioxide.
