Teacher Facing Child Porn Charges Dies in Fall from Cliff

His body was found at the bottom of a 150-foot drop in the Mohonk Preserve Saturday.

Jeffrey Whalen was found dead at the bottom of a 150-foot cliff in the Mohonk Preserve Saturday afternoon, according to news reports.

A resident and teacher in Yorktown, Whalen faced child porn charges as a result of a county investigation into a porn video he is alleged to have shared online.

The two charges in the complaint are promoting an obscene sexual performance by a child, a class D felony, and possessing an obscene sexual performance by a child, a class E felony,

The Westchester County District Attorney alleged in the complaint that in August Whalen promoted a video showing a girl’s genitals on a torrent site. The girl appeared to be 8 to 10 years old.

Whalen, 45, was on administrative leave from his job at Crompond Elementary School.

According to nbcnewyork.com, Yorktown Schools Superintendent Ralph Napolitano sent an email to parents Sunday about Whalen’s hiking accident. The district’s schools will have a crisis team available for students.
