Teen Victims In Somers Tragedy Were Members Of Police Cadet Program

SOMERS, NY — The teenage boy who was killed, and his younger brother who was wounded, in a shocking act of gun violence this week had a deep bond with local law enenforcenemt.

"Commissioner Raynor and the men and women of the Westchester County Police extend our deepest condolences to the family of Michael Raimondi, a member of our Cadet program who was shot and killed during a domestic incident at his Somers home this week," the department said in a statement released on social media Wednesday. "Michael’s mom and younger brother Matthew remain hospitalized."

The boys both joined the Cadet program earlier this month, according to the department.

"Their mom brought them to sign them up. She told us how excited they were to participate and how they wanted to learn about law enforcement work and careers," officials said. "Both boys are also known to several of our officers who serve as [School Resource Officers] in Somers schools."

As a Westchester community grieves, the police who rushed to the scene and joined the hunt for a killer are feeling a special sense of loss.

"We join with the Raimondi family and friends in grieving Michael’s death and we stand with the Somers school community in support of Matthew and Christina during this tragic time," WCPD officials said. "We remain in touch with family members and will support them however we can."
