YORKTOWN, NY — Two 14-year-old boys were arrested for trying to assault someone in Yorktown. Police said the two boys, who were not named, were charged with juvenile delinquency, though one of the underlying charges for an adult would have been a misdemeanor.

Police said that, around 9:50 a.m. Aug. 28, a report of an attempted assault was received that occurred on East Main Street.

The officer who responded said his investigation found that two boys were involved and were identified.

Both boys were contacted by the police and came to Yorktown Police Headquarters with a parent at separate times.

The teens would have both faced third-degree attempted assault if they had been charged as adults. The teen who police said damaged the victim's cellphone would also have been charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief if he had been charged as an adult.

Following processing on the charges, the teens were each issued a Family Court appearance ticket and released to the custody of a parent.

They are due to appear in the Westchester County Family Court Sept. 24.
