Town Board fails to pass Spectra/Granite Knolls sports complex plan
The plan to have Spectra Energy construct a portion of a new sports complex at Granite Knolls off Stoney St died when two board members, citing environmental issues, voted no on the parkland alienation home rule message.
Town Board Special Meeting
June 18, 2014
The major portion of the meeting was devoted to a discussion of the Spectra/Granite Knolls parkland alienation home rule message.
For a summary of the other items discussed and voted on at the meeting, including a proposed bond issue, the special election law, and a legal settlement with two town employees, see the full summary at ciyinfo.org.
With only Supervisor Grace and Councilman Murphy voting for the necessary Senate home rule message, the resolution failed to pass and the alienation request is now dead.
Both Councilmen Bianco and Patel voted no because of the uncertain environmental impacts from the “pigs” used to clean up the pipeline. In a follow up 3-1 vote, with Councilman Patel voting no, the board agreed to begin the SEQRA environmental review process for the town to begin to create the sports complex on its own, although Councilman Bianco said he was not giving the supervisor a blank check to proceed with the project.
