What To Expect At Yorktown's Relay for Life on June 12

Lots goes on at Relay for Life & here is what you can expect!

Relay for Life of Yorktown is just one week away! It’s Yorktown’s 10th Anniversary of Relay and we are making it our BEST year yet! We’d love for you to join us!

Friday, June 12 the Jack DeVito field in Yorktown will be filled with purple power & love! So what should you expect at Relay?

1. First off, a truly great time! Bring your family & friends over and enjoy a fun night out all while helping in the fight against cancer!

2. Survivors Dinner begins at 5:30 on the field. That means any cancer survivor is welcome to come over, register and enjoy a free meal and get a survivors bag. It’s one of the ways we honor you & your journey.

3. Each Relay team has a booth set up, that means there’s tons of food & snacks so you can plan on eating dinner & dessert there! Each table will also have something going on whether it’s raffles, tie dye, donut eating contests, bra pong, cape & mask making, bouncy houses, and SO much more! The money raised at each table will be donated to the teams goal! So by coming to buy some baked goods or enter in a raffle, it’s a great way to be donating to the cause.

4.Opening Ceremony begins at 7. Join us at the stage to kick off the event! Then at 7:30, we’ll be doing a survivors lap followed by a care givers lap around the track. It’s the perfect time to celebrate!

5. At 10 pm the Luminaria ceremony will begin & it’s one of the most powerful moments of the night. The Luminaria Ceremony is a time to remember people we have lost to cancer, to support people who currently have cancer, and to honor people who have fought cancer in the past. The power of this ceremony lies in providing an opportunity for people to work through grief and find hope. Each luminaria is a $10 donation, you can purchase one at the night of the event and decorate it yourself!

6. The fight back ceremony begins at 11 and it symbolizes the emotional commitment we each make to the fight against cancer. The action we take represents what we are willing to do for ourselves, for our loved ones, and for our community to fight cancer year-round and to commit to saving lives.

7. And lastly, the closing ceremony begins at sunrise on June 14 (this is an overnight event for teams and everybody is welcome to spend the night and join us for the closing ceremony) This is the time to remember the lives of those lost and to celebrate that each of us has committed, through our participation in a Relay event, to fight back against this disease over the next year.

Relay for Life is powerful, it’s fun and most importantly it’s a great way to bring the community together for one night fighting for an incredible cause! So come on out, bring everybody you know, and enjoy what’s always a fun night! Make memories with us!
