What is a Survivor & Caregiver?

Relay wouldn’t be much without our survivors & caregivers. We Relay for a world with more survivors! So you might be asking yourself now, well who do you consider to be a survivor & caregiver? Well, I’m here to answer!

So, what is a survivor?

A cancer survivor is defined as any person who is diagnosed with cancer beginning at the time of their initial diagnosis. So if you have heard the words, “you have cancer“, then you are a survivor.

What is a caregiver?

We think of caregivers as the unpaid loved ones who give the person with cancer physical and emotional care. They may be spouses, partners, family members or close friends. Most often, they are not trained for the caregiver job. Many times, they may be the lifeline of the person with cancer.

Why should survivors & caregivers join Relay?

At Relay, you get the opportunity to meet other cancer survivors & caregivers who have had many of the same experiences as you have. This is your chance to become a part of the largest cancer support group in the world.

You will also get the chance to be an inspiration to those who are newly diagnosed with cancer. You can provide support & comfort in ways that others can’t.

As a survivor, Relay is the chance to thank your caregivers for their support & commitment. As a caregiver, you get to honor & applaud your survivor! Survivors & Caregivers alike have described attending a Relay for Life event as a life changing experience.
