Yorktown Heights FD Rescues Kitten From Car Engine
The woman said she heard an unusual sound coming from her engine.

YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, NY — First responders in Yorktown were instrumental in a different kind of rescue Monday after a woman heard what she thought was a cat meowing from her engine. She had stopped her car and found a tiny stray kitten that had crawled inside the engine compartment.
In a post on Facebook, the Yorktown Heights Volunteer Fire Department said, after trying unsuccessfully to remove the kitten, with help of bystanders, the woman called emergency services around 7:50 p.m. and Engine 272 from the department was sent to the scene.
They had no luck because the kitten, who seemed to be healthy, was out of arm's reach.

Rescue 16 was called for because it carries a "man in the machine" extrication kit.
After about 45 minutes, the kitten was successfully removed from the engine without damaging the car.
