Yorktown Heights Sculptor Lila Turjanski-Villard to Exhibit @ American Fine Craft Show @ Brooklyn Museum Nov. 19-20

Turjanski-Villard exhibits her sculptures in the landmark Beaux-Arts Court at Brooklyn Museum with work by 89 other artists & artisans

Sculptor Lila Turjanski-Villard, Yorktown Heights, joins 89 other artists and artisans at the fourth American Fine Craft Show Brooklyn at Brooklyn Museum, November 19-20. The tickets to the show, in the regal Beaux-Arts Court, include general admission to the Museum.

The show is produced and curated by An American Craftsman Galleries that has supported crafts artists since 1982, longer than any other gallery in New York City, representing the work of over 500 from across the country.

On her website Turjanski-Villard writes of her mixed media sculptures: "My sculpture and my dance have been two passions in my life since I was a kid. The memories of that dance are stamped in my pieces. The themes of movement, space and communication are constantly present in my artwork. I like to explore the suggestions of bodies in communication, in movement and in rhythm with space.

"I enjoy working with a technique that I have developed over time and in which I use different materials including paper. It is a good vehicle I have found to express my themes. The completion of the piece is in the interpretation of the viewer once it becomes independent of my creative process."

The sculptures "have layers of different materials including a metal armature and paper and are painted and coated with a protective sealer."

Born in Argentina, Turjanski-Villard studied clay sculpture in private studios for more than ten years. Once living in the US, she took classes in contemporary sculpture at the Westchester Art Workshop that motivated her exploration of new materials. In 2005, she started to experiment with paper – mixed media sculpture to continue her creative journey. Currently, her work is exhibited at art galleries and juried art shows.

She received a degree in Psychology from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina and a Masters Degree in Management of Nonprofit Organizations from New York University. She lives in Yorktown Heights with her husband and their two children.

The craft show is timed for holiday shopping but not too close to Hanukah and Christmas giving visitors the treat of taking in the magnificent current and long-term exhibitions at the Museum. Concurrent special exhibitions at Brooklyn Museum include “Marilyn Minter: Pretty/Dirty;” “Beverly Buchanan—Ruins and Rituals;” “Iggy Pop Life Class by Jeremy Deller” and a ticketed exhibition, “Who Shot Sports: A Photographic History, 1843 to the Present,” $16 at the admissions desk.
