Yorktown Lions Continue to Find Ways to Assist Yorktown Life
The Yorktown Lions have managed - with some modifications due to Covid-19- to be an integral contributor to Yorktown life

Yorktown Lions Continue to Roar
The Yorktown Lions – like everyone else – have learned to adapt to the present pandemic. They have postponed the golf tournament and concert series, but have been able to maintain a positive presence in the community by supporting local organizations, modifying other annual events, and even adding a few activities to raise the spirits of Yorktown area residents.
Most recently, the Yorktown Lions presented the Yorktown Heights’ volunteer fire fighters with a check for $500. The check supports the firefighters’ commemorative coins’ fund raiser. The Yorktown Lions then donated the coins back to the fire department to sell once again.

On Saturday, Dec. 5, the Yorktown Lions participated in the “Light Parade” held at FDR Park. In November, the Lions decorated Town Hall for Halloween and served as a co-sponsor of the “Trunk and Treat” event at the Jefferson Valley Mall. Also, the organization sponsored – with the town of Yorktown – the “Halloween Crawl.” The Lions provided prizes to the top four decorated homes for Halloween.
In addition, the Yorktown Lions are participating in the virtual town tree lighting ceremony on December 12 at the John Devito Veterans’ Memorial Park. The Lions are also urging local residents to create ornaments that will be placed on the tree by the Parks and Recreation Department. The ornaments, which should express messages of hope, kindness, and love, may be dropped off at the Parks and Recreation Office at Sparkle Lake, 176 Granite Springs Road in Yorktown.

Also, the Yorktown Lions are sponsoring four awards for the “Holiday Light Fest.” Similar to the Halloween contest, area residents are asked to decorate their properties and then register their homes at the town website: www.yorktownny.org . The Yorktown Lions will be visiting each registered home and awarding prizes to the top four decorated homes.
The Yorktown Lions is a partner of Lions International, the largest service organization in the world. There are 1.35 million members represented in 207 countries with over 46,000 clubs. The Yorktown Lions’ chapter follow its “We Serve” motto by donating 100% of what it raises back to the community and to charities.
The Yorktown Lions support, for example, DARE, SPARC, Guiding Eyes, VA Hospital, Support Connection, Yorktown Food Pantry, high school scholarships, Midnight Runs to NYC, the Yorktown Halloween parade and party, and Easter Egg Hunt. Also, the summer concerts, held at the Jack Devito Veterans’ Memorial Field on Veterans’ Road, is organized and funded by the Yorktown Lions.
