Christine Menocal, foundation president this year, added that she and her colleagues are eager to continue the tradition of supporting worthwhile projects and programs.
The Foundation for Excellence in Yorktown Education was established to raise funds beyond the scope of school budgets for innovative projects and programs which will further enhance the education of Yorktown students. The foundation is a tax-exempt, 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization with its own board of directors and bylaws. Since 1997, the Foundation has awarded more than $500,000 in grants to the Yorktown schools.
The grants help educators develop timely, innovative and creative projects that enrich the educational process of the Yorktown school district. The foundation is an autonomous organization comprised of parents and teachers within the district and exists solely to benefit the students of the district. Proposals are accepted from teachers, administrators, parents or students. Parents and students are required to have a faculty sponsor.
