Yorktown -Somers Everyday Hero: Cindy Rubino Mom, Volunteer, Autism Advocate
A local mom of four juggles full-time work, volunteerism and helps out in her community, making her this week's Everyday Hero.

Do you know someone making a difference in the community? Maybe it’s a neighbor who volunteers at the local soup kitchen, or a student who reads to the elderly at a nursing home. Patch wants to tell their story. We are looking to share inspirational and uplifting stories of people who work to change others’ lives for the better.
Today’s Everyday Hero was sent by Sarah M. Connors.

- “Not only does Cindy courageously and conscientiously raise her four beautiful children, but she works full-time as the Benefits Manager at the Blue Book, constantly working overtime to ensure that all of our employees receive quality benefits and the best possible support. Cindy is unique because she ensures that all of her children participate in extracurricular activities, including theater, dance, and array of sports as well as Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. She dedicates time to help other parents as well, providing carpools for other children, volunteering at after-school extra-curricular events, fundraising, etc. Cindy also constantly volunteers to help at her children’s schools (Benjamin Franklin Elementary mostly, and now Copper Beach Middle School), and she regularly attends the Common Core workshops, PTA, SEPTA, and essentially all meetings the schools hold which will help educate her on the programs available to her children. Cindy also advocates passionately for her son John who is on the Autism spectrum, constantly educating herself and ensuring that he is provided every opportunity for success.”
Why do you feel is this person an Everyday Hero?
- “Cindy is also active in her community and is always seeking and providing support on social media with other parents who struggle with Common Core, countless hours of homework, and the changes recently implemented in the educational system. Cindy also continues her education, and just recently passed the 8th exam to earn her Employee Benefits Certification for which she studied relentlessly, in addition to the Master’s Degree she earned while pregnant with her first child. She is truly an inspiration to all who surround her, proving that you can be an amazing parent, active community member, and still pursue your own education and career. She is a champion of her children, advocate of education, and passionate about her community. I think that her ability to do it all, remain such a good person, and be as successful as she has been certainly makes her an Everyday Hero!”
