Yorktown Wants Residents' Input On Cell Service
The results of the survey will be used by town officials to determine what kinds of cell phone towers are acceptable to the community.

YORKTOWN, NY — The town of Yorktown wants to know what its residents think about cell phone service in the community.
A new cell phone service survey, created by CityScape Consultants, is available online.
The goal is to fine-tune maps that identify the areas of the town with the worst cell service, officials said.

According to a presentation made to the town board Tuesday, areas that have spotty service include the densely populated northeast and northwest corners of Yorktown.
The results of the survey will be used by town officials to determine what kinds of cell phone towers are acceptable to people in the community, whether that is poles, towers or some sort of concealed transmitter that looks like a tree.

Town Supervisor Matt Slater said town officials know from resident complaints that cell service on the east and south side of town has deteriorated over the past eight to 10 months.
"As remote working becomes a permanent reality for many residents in northern Westchester," he said, "I and my colleagues in neighboring towns must work collaboratively to ensure that our communities create a robust network of communications towers that can support our residents' increasing need for wireless bandwidth."
Officials said the survey is a step in the creation of the Northern Westchester County Draft Wireless Telecommunications Infrastructure Master Plan that involves seven municipalities. The plan will be used to coordinate remedial actions among the various municipalities to create seamless wireless coverage throughout the area.
The survey, which can be found here, asks people to say whether they live and/or work in the town, how they use personal wireless services and how many they have, who their wireless service provider is and other questions.
