YORKTOWN, NY — Yorktown's pool in Shrub Oak is open for the summer. The Brian J. Slavin Aquatic Facility at 3800 Sunnyside St. in Shrub Oak opened July 22.

According to the town's website, it will be open Wednesday through Sunday until Aug. 23.

The operating days will be split into two sessions from 10 a.m to 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. for the safety of swimmers and their families.

Supervisor Matt Slater said the town's recreation department developed a sound plan for reopening the facility that is in line with health standards of the state and county.

"The town board is confident the plan in place balances our residents' need for family activities while at the same time protecting public health," he said.

Slater urged that, despite the summer weather, it ultimately was the responsibility of the residents to make intelligent decisions for themselves and their neighbors.

To facilitate social distancing, the staff of the facility has drawn 75 social distancing squares and single-occupant Xs. The reservation for one of the squares or Xs will be $5 per session, in addition to the admission fee of $5 for adults, $3 for children 17 and under and $2 for seniors 62 to 69. Seniors 70 and up are admitted free.

The pool is open to residents only; no out-of-town guests are allowed. Proof of residency for adults must be a current government-issued photo ID card.
