We couldn't Relay without our Youth teams! Today we're answering common questions for youth & their parents!

The youth is the future of Relay & we take pride in how successful and inspiring our youth teams are year after year. Relay is such a great experience for everybody including kids! Today we’re answering our most asked questions for both our youth participants & their parents! If you have any other questions, please comment below, visit our facebook page or email Kait at kait.chieco@cancer.org!

Anybody! Ask friends, family, neighbors or teammates to join your team. Your team can be made up of all peers or a mix of people!

How much money do I have to raise?

There sis no minimum or maximum amount of money you need to raise for Relay. However, in order to get a Relay team t-shirt, you’ll need to raise $100. Raising $100 can be simple too- did you know that if you filled a regular Poland Springs water bottle with dimes, you’ll raise $98? Start your coin collection today & try to guess how much is in there when Relay rolls around!

Can I stay overnight?

Relay for life is an overnight event & the youth are more than welcome to stay! In order to stay overnight, you’ll need to make sure you have your youth waiver form filled out as well as making sure you have chaperones who will be staying with you. For everybody who is 18 years or younger, you’ll need one chaperone who is at lest 25 years old. We’ll pass out forms closer to Relay at team captains meetings or you can find the waiver at www.relayforlife.org. Staying overnight will be tons of fun this year! We’ll have Olympic themed activities going on throughout the night, so you’re not going to want to miss the fun!

For parents:

My child signed up for Relay, what now?

That’s great! Our youth community is a huge part of Relay & we couldn't Relay without them. You’ll act as their support system, taking them to & from team captains meetings, fundraisers or team meet-ups if needed. You can help them manage their Relay Dashboard & send out fundraising emails! You can also help them with fundraisers as well as their onsite fundraiser at Relay! There are tons of awesome activities the youth can organize!

How old does my child have to be to Relay?

One of the many great things about Relay is that Relayers can be any age!

Do I need to be at Relay?

Relayers who are 18 years and younger do need chaperones present.  The American Cancer Society requires one chaperone (25 years or older) for every 5 youth participants to be present. All youth & chaperones will need to fill out and hand in forms prior to Relay which will be distributed at team captains meetings.

We require this so that we have all emergency contact information for each  youth member in case of an emergency. Chaperones will be there to help us ensure that rules are being following & that everybody is having fun!

You can coordinate with other youth parents to decide who will be chaperoning. Or create a friendly competition by creating a team of parents to Relay too!
