You’ll learn the basics of cutting, shaping, and plishing a cabachon stone with instructor Dan Portale on a Cab King polishing machine. He will also talk about your selection of rough materials.
Each person will cut and finish a cabochon during the workshop to take with them.
Bring your own rough material or some will be available for purchase/use as well.

STANDING ROOM ONLY SAM SHACKLETON Sam Shackleton’s music is greatly inspired by the rich inter-connected musical oral traditions of Scotland, Ireland, and the United States. Strongly influenced by the 1960s folk revival, his unique sound is a mix of country, old time, traditional, folk, and blues with a Scottish spirit. He was born in Stirling and raised all over Scotland, from the Borders to the Highlands, and his music is deeply inspired by the oral tradition, musical culture, and landscapes of Scotland. Sam also holds a Research Masters degree with distinction in Scottish Ethnology from the renowned academic folk music institution, the School of Scottish Studies, specializing in folklore and ethnomusicology. Sam burst onto the global folk and country scene after being discovered busking on the streets of his hometown, Edinburgh, Scotland, by filmmaker Anthony Simpkins. Sam was then featured on Nashville based YouTube channel GemsOnVHS alongside artists such as Sierra Ferell and Benjamin Tod, with his popular video Cuckoo Bird connecting him with a large North American and global audience. In the years since, Sam has had major viral success with his hit singles on Spotify, such as The Lone Prairie, The Overgate, and Wild Bill Jones, and his numerous viral videos on Instagram and TikTok from where he has developed a large, passionate, and dedicated global audience. He was subsequently invited to open major international tours across the world for artists like The Mary Wallopers, Pokey LaFarge, Lukas Nelson, Willi Carlise, and Oliver Anthony. Sam has also built up an impressive headline resume of his own, having sold out all of his own headline shows in the UK, and recently selling out a majority of the shows on his 20-date debut USA tour in prestigious venues such as Zebulon in Los Angeles, Tractor Tavern in Seattle, and Swallow Hill Music in Denver.

Miriam Allen is a genre-defying songwriter who has opened for icons including Tim O’Brien, Doc Watson, and Del McCoury, performing at festivals across the western hemisphere from MerleFest in North Carolina to Salmonfest in Alaska to the Festival Río Cuale in Mexico. A finalist in both the John Hartford Songwriting Contest and the Asheville Brown Bag Competition, she builds solo shows around vocals, guitar, fiddle, and foot stomp, with setlists that range from avant-garde to honky-tonk to Latin.
Beyond the stage, Miriam is a passionate advocate and naturalist. She organized The Resilience Festival to support survivors of sexual trauma and the Pathway to Citizenship show to fund immigrant legal protections, and she works as a music therapist in group homes for people with disabilities. A backpacker of more than 1,000 miles through the Andes, Rockies, and Appalachians, she has volunteered to treat hundreds of hemlock trees across Western North Carolina and translated educational materials into Spanish for her community. She wrote a song for the award-winning film Coyote and another that was played for President Jimmy Carter in his final weeks. But he is charting out a personal guide for his life, quieting the noise, and sitting with his real voice – the one that’s candid, consistent, and often inconvenient.
We’re Only Human is Carll’s tenth album. Like his best lyrics, it is also an understated masterpiece, an honest snapshot of one man’s confrontation and delight with humanity’s biggest and most intimate questions. Where do we find forgiveness for ourselves and grace for others? How do we hold on to peace of mind and stay present? What can we—and should we––trust? And how can we moor ourselves to, well, ourselves, in the midst of confusing, trying times? We’re Only Human offers audiences the chance to listen to Carll as he listens to himself.
“I’ve lived outside of myself for so long,” Carll admits. “Distractions, fear, anxiety, insecurity, and the complexity of being human in this world have so often pulled me away from being present or at peace.”
“I feel like there’s been a voice riding shotgun all my life, pushing me to do better, but I’ve struggled to listen to it,” Carll says. “The idea behind this record was to do the personal work I needed to do, then codify those lessons in song to serve as sort of breadcrumbs to get me back on the trail if, and inevitably when, I get lost again.”
Carll is more than two decades into a celebrated career. Praise from places such as Pitchfork and the New York Times––the latter of which yoked Carll’s ability to tackle tough issues with wry humor to Bob Dylan––punctuate a resume that includes Americana Music Awards and a Grammy nomination. His songs aren’t safe, but many of Nashville’s stars have recorded them, including Kenny Chesney, Lee Ann Womack, and Brothers Osborne. As a solo recording artist, Carll has long-since established himself as one of Americana’s most-played––and most loved––voices. His warm but crackling vocals, wit, and heart dance through wordplay that’s always clever, and never too precious.

Raised in the Pacific Northwest, she began her musical journey busking on the streets of Seattle, where her powerful voice and honest storytelling forged deep connections with listeners and shaped her signature sound—a bold fusion of soul, blues, indie folk, and rock. ​Her artistry has led her from street corners to international tours, collaborations with the Seattle Symphony, and festival stages like Newport Folk Festival with Black Opry. Mongé’s work has been featured in the award-winning documentary Find Your Way: A Busker’s Documentary and across four acclaimed releases, including Steadfast (2014), Stone (2017), Carry On (2018), and Whitney Mongé Live with The Seattle Symphony (2021).
In 2024, after Hurricane Helene forced her to leave Asheville, Mongé relocated to Nashville, marking a new chapter in her career. That year she released the single What Would Love Do Now, became a finalist in the Arium Sounds of Summer competition, and won the 2025 Cayamo Soundcheck Contest. She is currently touring the U.S. and writing her debut full-length album, set for release in 2027.

STANDING ROOM ONLY AARON LEE TASJAN Aaron Lee Tasjan was experiencing the worst bout of imposter syndrome of his career when he sat down and wrote Todd Snider a vulnerable email asking for advice. Tasjan, despite writing and recording some of the most astute Americana rock songs of the last decade and being nominated for a Grammy, just didn’t see a future for an independent singer, songwriter, and guitarist like himself.
Snider read Tasjan’s email and immediately replied: “I think I have some ideas. I’ll write you back tomorrow.”
The next morning, Tasjan awoke to a signature Todd Snider missive for how to move forward as an artist. It was a novel-length email that read like the battle plans for the Invasion of Normandy. Do this, Snider wrote. Then this. But never that. The specifics don’t matter — besides, that’d be giving away the secret — but Tasjan devoured his mentor’s words and took them to heart.
He began writing feverishly, unbothered by expectations and immune to any pressure to match his acclaimed albums like In the Blazes, Karma for Cheap, or his most recent, 2024’s Stellar Evolution. When he was through, Tasjan had Get Over It, Underdog, his most inspiring LP to date. Produced by Tasjan and his longtime sound engineer Mark Miller, the album is a celebration of the power of songwriting, the unbreakable bond of friendship, and the determination of the dark horse.
“I went to the ultimate oasis for a singer, songwriter, and troubadour: Todd Snider. And he said, in very Todd fashion, ‘You can find your path forward by going backwards,’” Tasjan says with a laugh. “But he was right. I set aside my ego, played shows solo without my band, and wrote a lot of songs. In that process, I found my confidence again.”
Tragically, however, he lost his mentor. Snider died shortly after Get Over It, Underdog, was finished, leaving a void in the folk-rock scene that will prove nearly impossible to fill. But Tasjan is committed to carrying on Snider’s unbridled spirit and lifting up underdogs everywhere.

Madeleine Kelson is a Nashville based Americana artist. She pulls from a rich tradition of Folk, Country, and Americana, challenging its boundaries as a queer artist to represent the modern world. Madeleine spent her high school years in Chicago band, The Kelson Twins, playing venues including House of Blues and Thalia Hall, and landing a top Daytrotter Session with Paste Magazine. She later moved to Music City to pursue a solo career. Inspired by artists like Patty Griffin, Jason Isbell, andBrandi Carlile, her dynamic and down-to-earth storytelling and rich vocals are part of why NPR named her one 10 Nashville artists on the rise.
