• South Carolina offers four-star athlete after strong camp performance (on3.com subscription) — A standout football and track athlete from Burlington’s Southeast Alamance High, Joseph “Jet” Gibbs, has picked up a scholarship offer from South Carolina after impressing at a Columbia prospect camp. The four-star class of 2028 recruit already holds several major offers and is drawing national attention for his elite speed and playmaking potential. 
• Mexican cartel-linked leader pleads guilty to trafficking drugs into Horry Co. (abcnews4.com) — Federal prosecutors say a Mexican-linked drug trafficking network that operated mainly in Arizona and Horry County, S.C., also had ties reaching Burlington. A cartel-connected leader has now pleaded guilty to moving large quantities of cocaine, fentanyl, and heroin, with investigators alleging millions in proceeds and years of distribution before the operation was disrupted by federal charges.
