Flash Flood Watch In Effect: What You Need To Know

A flash flood watch is in effect for Mecklenburg, Iredell Counties into the evening, the National Weather Service said.

CHARLOTTE, NC β€” A flash flood watch in effect for Mecklenburg, Iredell Counties until late Monday as storms pushing into the region threaten to dump as much as 2 inches of rain this evening, the National Weather Service said.

Parts of the region could see as much as 2 inches of rain over the next few days, according to the July 23 forecast. A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that could lead to flash flooding, NWS said.

Earlier Monday, NWS issued a warning about the threat of potential localized flash flooding in the area. β€œNumerous to widespread showers and scattered thunderstorms will develop across the area this afternoon through tonight,” NWS said in a hazardous outlook advisory July 23. β€œThe main threat from the showers and storms will be heavy to excessive rainfall, which could result in localized flash flooding, especially in urban areas along the I-77 corridor.”
