• Sampson County Man Charged With Scamming Disabled Veteran Out of $120k (foxy99.com) — A Clinton man has been charged with scamming a 69-year-old disabled veteran out of about $120,000, in a case Sampson County investigators say began through online dating. Deputies allege he gained control of her bank cards and may have similarly targeted at least three other women in Sampson, Harnett, and Carteret counties. 
• Spartans set the pace against Hobbton (clintonnc.com) — Union’s boys soccer team has turned its season around, now 7-8 overall and 6-0 in conference play, with their only recent loss coming against powerhouse Clinton. After a dominant 4-0 win over Hobbton, the Spartans host West Columbus tonight, while Hobbton looks to bounce back against nearby Lakewood.
