Faith & America: A Free Course on Religion in U.S. History

For anyone who has ever wondered how faith shaped the country we live in, Solo Faith Church has opened a free online classroom worth knowing about. Its newest course, Faith & America: A History of Religious Life in the United States, traces religion in American life from the first colonial settlements to the present day. It is open to everyone, it costs nothing, and it moves at your own pace.

The course is built as six modules and twelve lessons, each followed by a short quiz. It opens with Colonial Roots, when faith first crossed the ocean into a new world, and moves into Awakening and Revolution, the era when religious revival and the birth of a nation became tangled together. From there it walks through the nineteenth century — a time of revival, rapid growth, and painful fracture — before turning to the questions raised by science, immigration, and a chorus of new voices. The final modules examine fundamentalism, war, and the mid-century church, then close with faith in modern America, including the Civil Rights Movement and the pluralistic nation we live in today.

You do not need a seminary background or a history degree to take part. Faith & America was written for church members, students, and curious neighbors across Concord and Cabarrus County alike. Solo Faith Church offers it as part of its community education ministry, taught under the teaching ministry of Pastor Doug Lattimore, with no cost and no catch. Every lesson ties events back to enduring questions about belief, community, justice, and identity.
