📰 News we're reading

1. New Hotel Approved by Town Board (corneliustoday.com) — Cornelius' Town Board has narrowly approved rezoning for the 40-room Cornelius Inn, plus cottages and a spa, at N.C. 73 and Mayes Road in the town's southeast corner. After a divided vote and opposition from nearby Davidson residents, the developer expects construction to take at least two years once underway.

2. Fines Upped for Sewage Spills; Herron Honored (corneliustoday.com) — Cornelius commissioners have sharply increased fines for illegal sewage discharges to as much as $25,000 from the town, on top of existing county penalties, with all proceeds going to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. The board also approved shared use of Hough High's athletic facilities and honored retiring deputy town manager Wayne Herron for decades of service.

3. Lake Norman Area Approves Major Mixed-Use Project as Boards Reject Multiple Housing Plans (power98fm.com) — Major development pressure continues around Lake Norman, including a mixed-occupancy condo project proposed in Cornelius and millions in upgrades planned for Bailey Road to ease congestion. Regional boards have approved several large mixed-use and residential projects while rejecting others, reflecting ongoing tension between growth and infrastructure limits. The story highlights how rapid building is reshaping nearby towns and traffic patterns residents rely on daily.

4. Gators' electric RB Evan Pryor eager to prove his worth alongside Jadan Baugh (sun-sentinel.com) — A former Hough High School star from Cornelius, running back Evan Pryor, is aiming to revive his career as a dynamic complement in the Florida Gators' backfield. After injuries and backup roles at Ohio State and Cincinnati, he's leaning on the big-play skills he first flashed at Hough to make the most of his final college season.
