Davidson, Cornelius Area Schools Readying For First Day on Aug. 28
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools start back Monday, Aug. 28. You're not going to believe what they've had to do to get ready.

DAVIDSON, NC -- If you see some long faces around town this week, it might be because summer vacation is winding down for most kids in the Lake Norman area. Ready or not, the first day of school for Charlotte-Mecklenburg public schools is Monday, Aug. 28.
But don’t give in to total despair, kiddos. You get your first break after a week when schools are closed for the Labor Day holiday Sept. 4.

CMS officials have been busy themselves readying the 176 district schools for the first day of school.

Here are some fun facts about how the school district has prepared for the upcoming school year:
- Readied more than 140,000 Chromebooks that will be issued to all students from third grade to 12th graders.
- Drivers hired for 1,078 school buses. The school buses collectively log 120,000 miles each school day.
- 176 CMS schools have been freshly painted with 4,180 gallons of paint, 260,000 gallons of cleanser, 24,750 gallons of floor finish and 40,500 light bulbs.
