New Coronavirus Deaths Reported In Davidson, Huntersville
Here's an update on the number of coronavirus cases confirmed in Davidson, Cornelius and Huntersville as of Thursday.
DAVIDSON, NC — Novel coronavirus has claimed the lives of at least 59 people in Mecklenburg County as health officials now say the county has 1,932 confirmed cases. The development comes as the new coronavirus, which causes COVID-19, continues to rise throughout the state, with cases present in all but one of the state's 100 counties.
North Carolina health officials reported 13,397 positive cases of COVID-19 throughout the state Thursday morning, an increase of 639 cases since Wednesday.
The death toll for the state increased by 30 new deaths since Wednesday, putting the statewide total at 507, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.

The death count includes one COVID-19 death in Davidson, 14 in Cornelius and one in Huntersville, according to DHHS data.

The number of people hospitalized with the coronavirus also rose slightly overnight, to 525, up from 516 reported Wednesday, health officials said.
Mecklenburg County continues to be the hardest hit in North Carolina, followed by Wake County, which has 961 confirmed cases and 21 deaths.
Here's a breakout of how many of the 1,932 COVID-19 cases in Mecklenburg are present in the Lake Norman region as of May 7, according to NC DHHS:
- Davidson (zip code 28036): 11 cases, 1 death
- Cornelius (zip code 28031): 70 cases, 14 deaths
- Huntersville (zip code 28078): 55 cases, 1 death
As of May 3, the most infected age group in Mecklenburg County is that of people ages 40 to 59, Mecklenburg County Public Health. They account for 34.4 percent of the county's positive tests. The 20 to 39 age group accounts for 34.2 percent of the county's positive tests, followed by the group of those age 60 or older, who account for 27.2 percent of the cases.
