1. Greensboro mayor says city remains financially healthy after Unit Assistance List notice (abc45.com) — Greensboro officials say the city remains financially healthy despite landing on the state's Unit Assistance List, stressing nearly $100 million in reserves and no immediate cash emergency. The Local Government Commission wants the city's fund balance raised from 22.9% to 25% sooner than 2030, and leaders promise a faster plan while keeping residents informed.

2. Police: Neighbor charged in connection with Greensboro double homicide on Creswell Court (wxii12.com) — Greensboro police have charged 64-year-old neighbor Michael Hargett with two counts of first-degree murder after two women were fatally shot in a Creswell Court gated community in late August. Officers say Hargett allegedly killed the women, barricaded himself inside his home, and then shot himself before being taken to a hospital, where he was later served with warrants.

3. Storm closes Greensboro parks, causes outages (wxii12.com) — A severe Friday storm closed several Greensboro parks, knocked out power to thousands, and left city crews clearing downed trees and debris through Saturday. Gillespie Golf Course is closed, Barber Park is limited to scheduled events, and residents are urged to avoid damaged areas, report non-emergencies to 373-CITY, and contact Duke Energy about outages and downed lines.

4. ABC Commission suspends Bar Latino's alcohol permits in Greensboro (wfmynews2.com) — Bar Latino on West Meadowview Road in Greensboro has had its alcohol permits suspended after an undercover ALE investigation, meaning it can stay open but can't sell drinks. State officials say the probe into alleged criminal activity is ongoing and more charges are expected, so neighbors may notice continued law-enforcement attention around the business.

5. Parents share details after son, 13, dies during football practice (amedpost.com) — Hundreds gathered at Northwest Guilford High School in Greensboro this week to celebrate the life of 13-year-old football player Caden Sorrell, who collapsed at practice and later died after cardiac arrest.
