October Is Data Center Month For The County And The City (rhinotimes.com) — Greensboro officials will spend October refining rules for large data centers, with City Council work sessions on October 8 and 15 under an existing 180-day moratorium. Guilford County commissioners will also hold an October 15 public hearing on a separate countywide moratorium, giving Greensboro-area residents a chance to weigh in on how and where future data centers can be built.
   

2. Downtown Greensboro Inc. Tries To Make Center City More Of A 'Community' (rhinotimes.com) — Downtown Greensboro residents get a new way to connect this Saturday with a Club & Resource Fair tied to the First Saturday Stroll on South Elm Street. The revived Downtown Neighborhood Association and Downtown Greensboro Inc. hope the event, along with recent parking changes and safety efforts, will strengthen community ties and help reshape downtown's identity after business closures and public concerns.
   

3. 20,000 expected at 2026 BIG HBCU Battle of the Bands in Greensboro, N.C. (abc45.com) — Greensboro is set to host more than 20,000 people at First Horizon Coliseum this Sunday for the 2026 BIG HBCU Battle of the Bands, "Battle for Carolina." North Carolina A&T, the hometown HBCU, will perform alongside six other bands in a showcase meant to celebrate HBCU culture and highlight college and recruitment opportunities for young people.
   

4. Commissioners approve transfer of former Guilford County Animal Shelter to the City of Greensboro at no cost (myfox8.com) — Guilford County has given the former animal shelter property on West Wendover Avenue to the City of Greensboro for free, clearing the way for permanent supportive housing with up to 65 units. City officials are already testing the site, talking with experienced developers, and lining up financing for the roughly $20 million project, which they hope to complete by 2029.
   

5. Historical Marker Proposed by Meredith Students to Be Unveiled (meredith.edu) — Greensboro residents are invited October 5 to the unveiling of a new state historical marker honoring NASA mathematician Virginia Layden Tucker, a graduate of what is now UNC Greensboro. Meredith College students researched and proposed the marker, and UNCG will host a free public ceremony featuring a talk on Tucker's life and recognition of the students' work.
