National Night Out 2017: Lake Norman Regional Events

August 1 is National Night Out. Here's what police departments in the Lake Norman region have planned.

HUNTERSVILLE, NC -- Police Departments across the Lake Norman region will be holding “National Night Out” community events Tuesday, Aug. 1 aimed at strengthening relationships between law enforcement and the communities they serve.

For 34 years, National Night Out events have been held across the U.S. This year, an estimated 38 million residents in 16,000 communities are expected to participate, according to the organization.

Here are the events planned for Tuesday, Aug. 1 in the Lake Norman region:

Huntersville

  • Huntersville Police Department’s National Night Out festivities will kick off at 5 p.m. at Northcross Shopping Center at 9751 Sam Furr Road, Waymer Park at 14200 Holbrooks Road and Huntington Green at 12000 Tuscaloosa Road.

Cornelius

  • Cornelius Police Department will have its National Night Out at Smithville Park in 19710 South Ferry Street from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event will include children’s activities, food and entertainment.
  • CPD will also hold “Pack the Patrol Car” to collect school supplies for distribution at Cornelius Elementary, JV Washam Elementary, Bailey Middle and WA Hough High School. Supplies requested include paper, pencils, pens, highlighters, notebooks, binders, index cards, tissues, crayons, markers, colored pencils and backpacks.

Davidson

  • Davidson Police Department will hold its National Night Out event from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Ada Jenkins Center field. The Brickhouse Tavern is providing hot dogs and hamburgers, Harris Teeter is supplying water and Davidson residents are encouraged to bring side dish or dessert to share.

Mooresville

  • Mooresville Police Department, Mooresville Fire Department and Iredell Sheriff’s Department will hold its National Night Out event from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. along North Main Street. There will be a raffle for bicycles and a Nintendo game system. Tickets will be available the night of the event and you must be present to win.
