Blackwell pleads guilty to gambling charge; other Kinston election charges dismissed (wcti12.com) — A Kinston woman recently pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor gambling charge, while more serious money laundering, perjury, and swearing-falsely counts were dismissed in Lenoir County District Court under a plea deal. She says she is also pursuing federal lawsuits against the City of Kinston, the Kinston Police Department, and the Lenoir County Board of Elections, with some claims still moving forward.

3. Ankle monitor leads deputies to arrest in Kinston park visit by registered sex offender (wcti12.com) — A Kinston man was recently arrested after deputies say his ankle monitor showed he twice visited Neuseway Nature Park, which includes a children’s museum and playground that registered sex offenders must avoid. Investigators say the monitored visits in April led to a felony charge and he is currently being held without bond by the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office.

4. Richlands Man Arrested Following Attempted ATM Break-In in Pink Hill — Neuse News (neusenews.com) — Law enforcement from Kinston and several surrounding agencies helped Lenoir County deputies catch a suspect after an attempted ATM break-in at the Midway Mart in Pink Hill early Monday. A 24-year-old Richlands man now faces multiple felony charges and is being held on a secured bond as investigators continue their work.

5. Kinston business owners see uptick in foot traffic with baseball season opener (wnct.com) — Baseball’s return to Kinston is already boosting downtown businesses, with cafés and newer spots like Tundratown seeing more customers tied to the Down East Bird Dawgs home opener. Owners say visiting players and fans are filling seats, helping long-time staples and newer ventures gain attention and revenue as the season gets underway.
