📰 News we're reading
• 3 charged after string of armed robberies in Lumberton (wpde.com) — A series of armed robberies at Lumberton gas stations and stores dating back to May has led police to charge three men after connecting surveillance footage and license plate reader data. The suspects face multiple counts including armed robbery, kidnapping, and firearm offenses, and investigators believe they may be tied to additional unsolved robberies in the city.
• Dry September Deepens Drought Across the Carolinas (sfntoday.com) — Lumberton and the rest of Robeson County are among North Carolina’s driest spots, with less than an inch of rain in September and soil too parched for planting winter cover crops. State climatologists say the ongoing severe to extreme drought is cutting crop yields and stressing livestock feed, though a potentially soaking rain this weekend could finally bring some short-term relief.
