136 Coronavirus Cases Reported In Iredell County
The number of confirmed positive coronavirus cases in Iredell County has grown. Here's the latest COVID-19 update.
MOORESVILLE, NC — Novel coronavirus continues to spread in Iredell County, with increases reported throughout the county, according to Iredell County Heath Department. The number of confirmed positive cases of novel coronavirus, which causes COVID-19, was at 136 as of Wednesday afternoon, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
The new tally represents 23 new cases confirmed in the county since Wednesday, April 29.
At least six people in Iredell County have died as a result of coronavirus-related illness, and six people remain hospitalized, ICHD said.

The tally is cumulative and includes at least 77 cases that are assumed recovered, according to county health data. In reviewing all the cases, the age group hardest hit is that of county residents between 25 and 49 years of age.
"Reporting the number of cases that appear to have recovered is a complicated process," ICHD said in a recent statement. "Some infected people will have mild symptoms and others find themselves with more severe symptoms. People have varying experiences on how the virus runs its course, making reporting the number of those who have appeared to have recovered a complicated process, adding, "Full-recovery' looks different for everyone and cannot truly be defined or measured at this time."

As of Wednesday morning, at least 12,758 people in North Carolina had tested positive for COVID-19, and 477 had died from coronavirus-related illness, DHHS said.
The number of outbreaks confirmed in congregate living facilities in the state, such as nursing homes and residential care facilities, continues to rise as deaths reported in these facilities claim more than half of the state's death toll.
One such outbreak was reported recently at the Autumn Care nursing home in Statesville, where two staff members and one resident have confirmed cases. No deaths have been reported at the facility. The Iredell nursing home is one of 62 nursing homes and 23 residential care facilities in the state reporting an outbreak of COVID-19, NC DHHS said.
Iredell County health officials are grouping cases into three regions of the county: North, Central and South. Here's a breakdown of where cases are emerging as of 4 p.m. May 5, according to the Iredell County Department of Health:
North Region (zip codes 27020, 27028, 27055, 28625, 28634, 28636, 28660, 28689 ad 28678)
- 22 cases (up 11 cases since April 29)
Central Region (zip codes 27013, 28166, 28677)
- 44 cases (up 11 cases since April 29)
South Region (zip codes 28036, 28115, 28117, 28125)
- 67 cases (up three cases since April 29)
According to county health data, those in the age group of 25 to 49 years of age represent 35 percent of all Iredell County cases, followed by those 50 to 64 years of age with 32 percent of cases, and those and 18 to 24 years of age with 13 percent of cases. Those 65 and older make up 19 percent of COVID-19 cases in Iredell County.
At least two people infected with COVID-19 in Iredell County are under age of 17.
