Academy Sports Donating $10K To Mooresville Police K9 Nonprofit

Academy Sports + Outdoors' $10,000 donation will go to Sheldon's K9s, a nonprofit launched in honor of slain MPD officer Jordan Sheldon.

MOORESVILLE, NC — Academy Sports + Outdoors is donating $10,000 to a Mooresville first-responder organization Wednesday in honor of the upcoming National Night Out Aug. 6, the company announced.

For nearly 40 years, National Night Out events have been held across the U.S. as an effort to promote police-community relationships. Last year, an estimated 38 million residents in 16,000 communities were expected to participate, according to the organization. Academy is an official sponsor for the national event.

The donation will be made to Sheldon’s K9s, a recently formed Mooresville-based nonprofit focused on supporting Mooresville Police Department’s K9 unit and its handlers. The organization, which was launched earlier this year to honor slain Mooresville K9 officer Jordan Sheldon, will receive the check July 31 at 1 p.m. at the new Mooresville store, located at 426 Talbert Road.
