FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

8th Annual Iredell Walk for Recovery to celebrate National Recovery Month

(IREDELL COUNTY) The 8th Annual Iredell County Walk for Recovery will be on Saturday, September 27, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at South Iredell High School Performing Arts Center (299 Old Mountain Road).

This FREE, family-friendly event will celebrate the hope and healing that comes with recovery from substance use and mental illness with words from three inspiring speakers as well as community leaders.

Family activities, including music, magician, balloon artists, face painting, dance and choral performances, photo booth, art exhibit, recovery art project, games, and crafts, will also add to the fun.

A free catered dinner of hotdogs, water, and side items will also be served. Other treats will be distributed by individual vendors. Water will be provided courtesy of Niagara Water.

The National Recovery Month event spreads the word about treatment and recovery as well as provides education to parents, youth, and community members related to substance use prevention and mental illness issues.

Many vendors associated with substance use, mental health, recovery, and other helping agencies will share information, and adults can take a "walk" around the event area with their stamp card, visiting the vendors.

Turning in the completed stamp card to the information desk will make adult attendees eligible for prize drawings! (Must be present to win!)

ABOUT NATIONAL RECOVERY MONTH

Each September, SAMHSA sponsors National Recovery Month to increase awareness and understanding of mental health, trauma, and substance use disorders and celebrate the individuals living in recovery.

Now in its 37th year, Recovery Month celebrates the gains made by those in recovery, just as we celebrate improvements made by those who are managing other health conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, asthma, and heart disease.

Each September, Recovery Month works to promote and support new evidence-based treatment and recovery practices, the emergence of a strong and proud recovery community, and the dedication of service providers and community members across the nation who make recovery in all its forms possible.

The observance will work to highlight inspiring stories that help thousands of people from all walks of life find the path to hope, health, and wellness.
