Here are the top stories in Mooresville today:

  1. It might have been a long time coming, but it finally happened! An official ribbon cutting commemorated the opening of the new western branch of the library this week. According to the Mooresville Tribune, "the Mooresville Public Library celebrated the opening of its western branch with a large turnout of town and county officials as well as officials from Iredell-Statesville Schools and even an appearance from North Carolina State Librarian Michelle Underhill. The new library is located at 614 Brawley School Road."(Mooresville Tribune)
  2. Taking a step back in time, the second annual Old Fashioned Spirit Day will take place on October 30 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the historic Hugh Torance House and Store in Huntersville. The Mooresville Tribune suggests you, "bring your little goblins and princesses for an afternoon filled with pumpkin coloring, crafts, an age-appropriate Spooky Trail and some 19th century Irish yard games that hail back to the misty legends of magical warriors and fairy tales. Event Coordinator Lynn Mintzer said, "Our event is perfect for the family with little ones, 3-9 year olds. Sorry, no bouncy houses here. We are all about providing an old fashioned Halloween. Drop in or let us know that you are coming on our website so we will have plenty of pumpkins for the kids to paint." Spirit Day is a celebration honoring the Torance's Irish heritage. Hugh Torance and his three brothers left Ireland and came to the British American colonies in 1763. During the late 1700s and 1800s Scots-Irish immigrants were settling the North Carolina backcountry, including Mecklenburg County." Hope to see you there! (Mooresville Tribune)
  3. Famous race car driver and author? Yup, that's Dale Earnhardt Jr.! According to Sportscasting, "Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s new book — titled Buster's Trip To Victory Lane — isn't his first foray as an author, but it's his first time penning a book for kids. Naturally, with two daughters under the age of 5, Earnhardt is no stranger to children's reading material — he says his girls have "a mini-library" of "hundreds and hundreds" of books — but it wasn't until fairly recently that he'd ever thought of becoming a children's author. When the publishing company Earnhardt had worked with on his last writing project — Racing To The Finish: My Story, published in 2018 — reached out to gauge his interest in writing a children's book, the father of two little ones couldn't resist the idea." Happy reading race fan families! (Sportscasting)
