Coronavirus Concerns Trigger Event Cancellations In Mooresville
The move comes after Gov. Cooper issued new guidelines urging the cancellation of events that draw large crowds.
MOORESVILLE, NC — Following new guidance from Gov. Roy Cooper to limit large gatherings, the Town of Mooresville has cancelled a number of upcoming events as a precautionary measure to help curb the spread of the novel coronavirus, also known as COVID-19.
The move comes as the number of presumptive positive cases of COVID-19 increase around the state.
By Friday morning, the number of COVID-19 cases in North Carolina had risen, with 14 considered presumptive positive and one confirmed positive case, according to the NC Department of Health and Human Services.

The state outbreak now includes several cases in the Charlotte metro region. Thursday, two presumptive cases of COVID-19 were reported in Mecklenburg County and one in Cabarrus County, according to county health officials.

“The Town of Mooresville is continuing to take precautionary measures to keep both its
employees and residents safe and healthy,” the town said in a statement Thursday.
“After careful consideration, the Town has determined that it will postpone or cancel all
Town-led Mooresville Public Library and Parks and Recreation activities, as well as non-
essential Town events, until approximately April 30.

- March 16 — Community Reads Kick-Off on
- April 4 — Easter Eggstravaganza 2020 at Mazeppa Park
- April 18 — Liberty Park Grand Re-Opening
Here’s a list of other community events that have been cancelled:
- Mooresville Police Academy and Mooresville Fire-Rescue Citizens Academy are postponed
- After school childcare provided by the Parks and Recreation Department will continue for now but will be re-evaluated based upon future decisions made by local school districts.
