IREDELL COUNTY — A new coronavirus outbreak was confirmed over the weekend at a second Iredell County long-term care facility after a resident of the facility and a staff member tested positive for COVID-19, according to county health officials.

The two Iredell County facilities with outbreaks are Autumn Care of Statesville and The Citadel Mooresville.

As of Tuesday, there were 83 nursing homes, 36 residential care facilities and 18 correctional facilities reporting COVID-19 outbreaks, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.

Health officials consider two or more cases at congregate living facilities, such as a nursing home or jail, to be an outbreak.

"The facility has willingly worked in conjunction with the Iredell County Health Department to have all residents and employees tested for COVID-19 as a precautionary measure," health officials said in a statement.

County health officials said they received word of the confirmed cases Sunday, and that the resident has been isolated from other residents at the facility. The staff member is isolating in their home.

"The Iredell County Health Department is working with this facility to conduct contact tracing to determine who else may have been exposed to COVID-19," ICHD said.
