Dramatic Chase Leads To 3 Arrests For Mooresville Car Break-Ins

One of the suspects tried to avoid arrest by driving more than 90 mph and ramming his car into several police vehicles.

MOORESVILLE, NC — Three suspects accused of vehicle break-ins in the Morrison Plantation neighborhood were arrested early Monday morning after a dramatic chain of events that included a high speed chase and a suspect ramming multiple police cruisers in an attempt to run from officers, according to Mooresville Police Department.

A Mooresville officer who fired his weapon at one of the suspects during the incident is also now on administrative leave, MPD said.

According to police, officers first responded to Morrison Plantation after a resident called 911 shortly after 2 a.m. to report vehicle break-ins in the neighborhood. Officers arrived at the scene and apprehended Jamario Darden, 27, of Charlotte, however two additional suspects were seen leaving the area in a vehicle, MPD said.

One of those suspects — identified as Latrelle Davon Jenerette, 25, of Charlotte — was driving “in a careless and reckless manner while driving at speeds in excess of 90 [mph]," MPD said.

Police pursued the vehicle, down Plantation Ridge Drive to west Highway 150 to Paradise Peninsula Road.

“In an attempt to avoid apprehension, Jenerette used his vehicle to assault multiple officers by ramming two police vehicles head on,” MPD said. “Also, he assaulted a third officer by ramming his vehicle into the driver’s side of the police vehicle, then backing out of the initial impact, and again ramming his vehicle into the driver’s side of the same patrol vehicle.”

As Jenerette sped towards the third police car, an MPD officer fired several rounds from his handgun “in an attempt to stop the assault,” MPD said. No injuries were reported from the shooting, and per department policy when an officer fires their service weapon, that officer is now on administrative pending an investigation.

Both Jenerette, along with his passenger— identified as Eugene Boateng, 27, of Charlotte — were taken into custody without further incident, MPD said.

All three were arrested and charged as follows:

  • Darden was charged with two counts of breaking and entering of motor vehicle and additional charges may be pending.
  • Jenerette was charged with two counts of breaking and entering of motor vehicle; felony flee to elude; three counts of assault with a deadly weapon on law enforcement; two counts of felony probation violation; and multiple traffic offenses. Additional charges may be pending.
  • Boateng was charged with two counts of breaking and entering of motor vehicle, and may face additional charges. He is a Fugitive from Justice (State of Kentucky) for Forgery, Tampering, and Drug charges, MPD said.
