For those who arenβt familiar with King, Rolling Stone called her a βlittle bit country, a little bit rock nβ roll,β and ultimately βpunk as f---.β Her second album, βShake the Spirit,β was dubbed βfirst-rateβ and a βrowdy, good-time party recordβ by Variety.
The album deals with Kingβs life since her Grammy-nominated mega-hit βExβs and Ohβsβ took off in 2016. She secretly eloped that year with a man sheβd only met weeks earlier. The two split the following year and King has had to battle depression, substance abuse and even post-traumatic stress disorder in that time.

While most of the album is light-hearted β she even jokes about a sex act in the song βIt Girlβ β her songs reflect those experiences.
Itβs βinfused with divorce, self-doubt, medicinal drinking, PTSD and, well, more divorce,β Variety said. And there are some βgrungy bangersβ in there.
King told The Associated Press in October that every song on the latest album was βlike another layer awayβ from the sadness and darkness.
βI just remember crying and singing like, βGirl, you gotta get through this, you gotta get through this. Use your pain,ββ she said.
