Iredell Coronavirus Update: 93 People Test Positive

There are now 93 people in Iredell County who have tested positive for coronavirus, as the state saw its biggest jump in deaths overnight.

MOORESVILLE, NC — The number of people who have tested positive for novel coronavirus in Iredell County increased overnight to 93 cases, up from 88 reported Monday, county health officials said Tuesday.

The new coronavirus, which causes COVID-19, has claimed at least three lives in Iredell county.

There are now 6,951 people in North Carolina confirmed to have COVID-19, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services said Tuesday morning. The death toll from novel coronavirus in the state also rose since Monday, up by 34 deaths, bringing the total of lives lost to 213. It is the single largest jump in fatalities in the state since the first COVID-19 death was recorded March 25.

The number of outbreaks confirmed in congregate living facilities in the state, such as nursing homes and residential care facilities, continues to rise as deaths reported in these facilities claim about 45 percent of the state's death toll.

One such outbreak was reported at an Iredell County nursing home. The Iredell long-term care facility is one of 38 nursing homes and 14 residential care facilities in the state reporting an outbreak of the new coronavirus, which causes COVID-19, NC DHHS said Tuesday.

Iredell County health officials are grouping cases into three regions of the county: North, Central and South. New data released by the county health department Tuesday indicates new cases are emerging in the Mooresville area in south Iredell County, as well as the central region of the county.

Here's a breakdown of where cases are emerging as of April 21, according to the Iredell County Department of Health:

North Region (zip codes 27020, 27028, 27055, 28625, 28634, 28636, 28660, 28689 ad 28678)

  • 10 cases

Central Region (zip codes 27013, 28166, 28677)

  • 25 cases

South Region (zip codes 28036, 28115, 28117, 28125)

  • 58 cases

According to county health data, those in the age group of 50 to 64 years of age represent 31 percent of all Iredell cases, followed by those 25 to 49 years of age with 33 percent of the cases and 18 to 24 years of age with 14 percent of cases. Those 65 and older make up 21 percent of COVID-19 cases in Iredell County.

At least one person infected with COVID-19 in Iredell County is under age of 17.

Mooresville police officers, firefighters and emergency medical workers showed their appreciation of local healthcare workers at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center. Tuesday morning with a "Parade of Lights."

The display of appreciation from officers and firefighers comes as cases of novel coronavirus, which causes COVID-19, continue to mount in Iredell County and the state.

As dawn began to break, members of the Mooresville Police Department, Mooresvile Fire-Rescue and Iredell County EMS, along with area volunteer fire departments drove through the Mooresville hospital complex around 7 a.m. during the morning shift change.

While the event was not meant for the public, the Town of Mooresville livestreamed it on its Facebook page.

"Thank you to the Town of Mooresville, our first responders, and all of those that are working on the front lives to fight this," commented Jennifer Butkovich Bosser.
