Iredell Man Accused Of Trying To Rob Man, Son At ATM: ICSO
Jimmy Wayne Stroud, 31, is accused of threatening a family at a Statesville ATM, then later following them, the sheriff's office said.
IREDELL COUNTY, NC — A 31-year-old Iredell County man was arrested recently after he attempted to rob a family at a Statesville ATM, then later followed them, according to the Iredell County Sheriff's Office.
The May 27 incident occurred at a Cash Point ATM located in the parking lot of Food Lion shopping center at 2187 Old Mountain Road in Statesville.
According to a sheriff's office report, the victim was attempting to withdraw money from the ATM when a white Cadillac SRX pulled in behind him. A male passenger in the vehicle got out of the SUV, walked up to the victim's truck, opened the rear passenger door where the victim's son was sitting and issued a threat.

"The victim stated he felt the suspect was attempting to rob them," ICSO said. "He was able to take the money from the ATM and drove off."
The suspect, who was later identified as Jimmy Wayne Stroud, returned to the SUV, which then began to follow the victim south on Old Mountain Road to a gas station near Interstate 40, then back to the Food Lion parking lot where the victim attempted to lose the suspects.

Based upon the vehicle description, ICSO investigators were able to identify Stroud as the suspect involved, and warrants were issued for his arrest.
Stroud was located at his home on Silvermere Drive in Statesville June 4 and taken into custody without incident. He was transported to the Iredell County Detention Center, and was charged with felony attempted common law robbery; felony breaking and entering to a motor vehicle; and misdemeanor communicating threats, ICSO said.
ISCO said the investigation into the incident remains ongoing and additional charges may be forthcoming.
