Hello all. Karena Garrity here with your fresh copy of the Mooresville Daily, full of all the things you need to know about what's happening locally. Today you'll read about these stories and more:

  • Job Fair on Wednesday!
  • Crime is down in Iredell County.
  • 5K Race to pay it forward!

But first, today's weather:

Mostly sunny and delightful. High: 73 Low: 44.

📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Mooresville who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.

I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our Mooresville Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.

Here are the top three stories today in Mooresville:

  1. Do you have lunch plans on Wednesday, October 26 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.? If not, why not stop by Barcelona Burger and visit the pop-up Job Fair to learn more about career opportunities with the Town of Mooresville? Some jobs have a sign-on bonus of $2,000 to $3,000. Stop by and check it out! mooresvillenc.gov/HR. (Town of Mooresville NC via Facebook)
  2. Each year the North Caroline State Bureau of Investigations (NCSBI) gathers crime statistics from law enforcement agencies across the state and produces the annual Uniform Crime Report (UCR). According to Mooresville Tribune, "While the primary objective is for statistics to be used in research and planning, some look to the Uniform Crime Report (UCR) as a report card for law enforcement agencies. In addition, the UCR data have become social indicators and can be used when deciding where to live. The data provided by the NCSBI is one calendar year behind. The overall Crime Index Rate, which includes murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny, and larceny of a motor vehicle, decreased by a rate of 53 percent from the years 2014 through 2021. Darren Campbell said his goal when he was elected sheriff in 2014 was to make a difference in the community, keep people safe, decrease crime and make Iredell County the best place to live and raise a family. The most recent report from the state indicates that is exactly what is happening, Campbell said." (Mooresville Tribune)
  3. Do you like to run and do good? Then mark your calendar for November 19 for the seventh annual Pay It Forward 5K at Stumpy Creek Park in Mooresville. According to the Mooresville Tribune, "this unique event is hosted by Rocky Mount Church on Perth Road. This is not your typical race. The Pay It Forward 5K event takes all the proceeds from registration fees, business partners and generous donations, and then distributes them into water bottles for the participants to go out and Pay It Forward. Rocky Mount Church pays all the expenses, so truly every penny raised goes back out into the community in an act of kindness to another person. As each runner/walker crosses the finish line, they are given a water bottle with cash. It can be anywhere from $30 to $500 inside. It is then up to the participant to choose how they will pay it forward to another person with their bottle money. Race time will be 8:30 a.m., and registration is open. Visit https://runsignup.com/Race/NC/Mooresville/PayitForward5k."(Mooresville Tribune)

From my notebook:

  • Mooresville Police Department: "Ella says, "Don't be a Zombie (likes my collar) and makes sure you stay safes while tricks-or-treating with my tips!" Tip #2 – Use sidewalks, crosswalks, and look out for motorists. When the sun goes down, it's harder for motorists to see trick-or-treaters. Stay on the sidewalk if possible. Make sure you look both ways before you cross the street and use crosswalks! MPD wishes you a safe and happy Halloween!" (Mooresville Police Department via Facebook)
  • Mooresville Public Library: "Check out some of these spooky, scary picture books! We have so many options to help you and your family celebrate Halloween. Patrons can check out five children's holiday books per card and these items check out for one week. " (Mooresville Public Library via Facebook)
  • Mooresville Parks & Recreation: "Don't forget to meet Destination Recreation out at Bellingham Park today!" (Mooresville Parks & Recreation via Facebook)
  • Mooresville Parks & Recreation: "Happy Saturday Everyone! Check out this 𝓌ℯℯ𝓀'𝓈 at a glance, to see a small portion of what's happening in ᴍᴏᴏʀᴇsᴠɪʟʟᴇ ᴘᴀʀᴋs & ʀᴇᴄʀᴇᴀᴛɪᴏɴ! #thisweekataglance #mooresvilleparksandrec #mooresvillenc #happyfriday #thingstogo" (Mooresville Parks & Recreation via Facebook)
