Man Banned From Flea Market Goes Back, Pulls Gun: Sheriff

IREDELL COUNTY — A 21-year-old Iredell County man who was banned from a Statesville flea market was arrested after he returned to the market and pulled a gun on an employee, according to authorities.

Iredell County sheriff’s deputies responded to the Feb. 28 incident at Sharon’s Discount Flea Market at 560 Turnersburg Highway and were told by the victim and several witnesses that the suspect — identified as Christopher Gage Handy — had brandished a weapon when confronted by the employee.

Deputies located Handy a short time later and he was taken into custody.

Handy was charged with misdemeanor assault by pointing a gun, and misdemeanor second degree trespassing, as well as also served with an outstanding arrest warrant for failure to appear in court. His secured bond was set at $8,000.
