MHS Beefs Ups Security After Shooting Threat Made Online

A social media threat referenced a possible shooting planned for Mooresville High School on Thursday, the school's principal said.

MOORESVILLE, NC — Mooresville High School is increasing security this week after a threat was made against the school on social media referencing a possible shooting planned for Thursday, Principal Eric Schwarzenegger said Monday evening.

In a message to MHS parents, Schwarzenegger said that Mooresville Police Department is investigating the threat and that the school “will take every precaution.”

“This post, in light of the recent posts referencing Mooresville Middle School, are extremely concerning,” he said.

Schwarzenegger encouraged parents to talk to their children about posting and spreading messages on social media. “Spreading this unverifiable information through social media can be detrimental to investigation efforts,” he said.

“I don’t even think I want to chance sending my kid to school,” one parent said on the school’s Facebook page.

“I am sad that this keeps happening. I am sad that some kids think this is funny and the way to get noticed,” said another.
