MLK Day In Mooresville: Storytelling, Unity March

Mooresville's MLK celebrations kick off this weekend, and include a service project, free movies, a breakfast program and unity march.

MOORESVILLE, NC -- The life and legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. will be celebrated across the U.S. Monday, Jan. 15. In Mooresville, the holiday will be celebrated with a host of events, including storytelling, free movies, a breakfast program and a unity march.

Here is a list of the Town of Mooresville’s MLK events scheduled Jan. 13 - Jan. 15, 2018:

Freedom on My Mind is a 1994 feature documentary film that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, won that year's Grand Jury Prize for Best Documentary, and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. It is the first film to chronicle, in depth, the story of Freedom Summer in Mississippi.

Selma is a 2014 American historical drama film directed by Ava DuVernay and written by Paul Webb. It is based on the 1965 Selma to Montgomery voting rights marches led by James Bevel, Hosea Williams, Martin Luther King, Jr. and John Lewis.

Red Tails is a 2012 American war film directed by Anthony Hemingway in his feature film directorial debut, and starring Terrence Howard and Cuba Gooding Jr. The film is about the Tuskegee Airmen, a group of African-American United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) servicemen during World War II. The characters in the film are fictional, although based on real individuals.

Monday, Jan. 15, 2018

Breakfast will be provided by Bouk Catering and entertainment provided by Matrimony Mimes. This year’s keynote speaker is Statesville native, ECU graduate and Super Bowl Champion, Vinson Smith. Tickets for event are available online.
