Mooresville Graded Schools Closed Ahead Of Michael

Mooresville Graded Schools will close Thursday, however Iredell-Statesville Schools will operate on a normal schedule.

MOORESVILLE, NC — There will be no school Thursday for students or staff at Mooresville Graded School District and the Iredell-Statesville Schools, announced the school districts on Thursday morning. Iredell-Statesville Schools, which initially was to be open Thursday, announced it would close, too.

"Due to worsening conditions in the county, schools will be closed for students today," announced Iredell-Statesville School on its web site. "Prime Time will also be canceled and all athletic events and other after-school activities are canceled. Staff should refer to Inclement Weather Call #2 on the district website or in their email.

MGSD issued the following message to students, parents and the community early Thursday morning:

"Our area is currently in a Tropical Storm Warning with wind gusts up to 50 mph beginning around noon and continuing until after dismissal time when students would be on the bus or driving home from school. Therefore, for the safety of all, there will be no school for students and staff today Thursday, October 11, 2018. There will also be no BASP. "

North Carolina’s governor, Roy Cooper, signed an executive order Wednesday declaring a state of emergency in the state.

“I’m taking action to get North Carolina ready for Hurricane Michael, and I encourage people across our state to get ready as well,” Cooper said Thursday. “Make no mistake—Hurricane Michael is a dreadful storm, and it poses serious risks to North Carolina.”
