Mooresville Officer Shot At Van As It Sped Towards Him: Report
A Mooresville officer is on administrative leave pending an investigation after he shot at a van accelerating towards him late Sunday.

MOORESVILLE, NC — A Mooresville police officer is on administrative leave pending an North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation after he shot at a van multiple times late Sunday while responding to a call regarding a suspicious vehicle. According to the officer, the driver of the van attempted to flee the scene and accelerated towards him.
The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. Nov. 18 in the 1000 block of Shearers Road near Mooresville Fire Station 3.
“Officer Sheldon drew his service weapon and fired several rounds to stop the assault,” Mooresville Police Department said in a statement. The SBI investigation is protocol in incidents of officer involved shootings.

No one was struck by gunfire or injured in the incident, according to the police account. The driver of the van, who was identified as Jeffrey Daniel Stewart, 27, of Burlington, North Carolina, was taken into custody.
Stewart was charged with resist, delay and obstruct an officer; reckless driving to endanger; and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. He was transported to the Iredell County Jail and his bond was set at $100,000.
