Mooresville Teacher Named 'Beginning Teacher Of The Year’

The Park View Elementary teacher beat out dozens of other finalists from around the state for the "Beginning Teacher of the Year" award.

MOORESVILLE, NC — Mooresville second grade teacher Leanne Rose beat out more than two dozen other finalists from around the state and was awarded this week the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT) Beginning Teacher of the Year award. This year marks the first year for the accolade.

Cristina Lane of Wake County Public Schools was runner up for the award.

Rose, who teaches at Park View Elementary School in Mooresville, was awarded the Mooresville Graded School District Beginning Teacher of the Year award in August.

According to NCCAT, the award comes with a list of perks:

  • $5,000 cash prize
  • Participation in a GoGlobal NC trip to Australia in 2020
  • Instructional supply funds for the teacher's school
  • $2,000 cash prize to the runner-up
  • Travel expenses for regional winners to participate in NCCAT professional development and leadership development

“I am proud of all our finalists and happy for Ms. Rose and her school district,” NCCAT Executive Director M. Brock Womble said in a statement. “NCCAT is a long-time supporter of teaching excellence and a natural expression of that support is to recognize the best of the beginning teachers in our state.”

Rose was hired by MGSD in 2018.

“Mrs. Rose is an exceptional teacher whose passion and excitement for the educational profession is an inspiration to her students and colleagues!,” said Park View principal Dr. Misha Rogers. “She is dedicated to every child, every day as she purposefully focuses on the whole child. I could not be more proud of what she has accomplished in the beginning of her career.”
