More Than 100 New COVID-19 Cases Confirmed In Iredell This Week
Iredell health officials reported a new COVID-19 death Friday, increasing the county's death toll to eight.
MOORESVILLE, NC — Iredell County confirmed more than 500 novel coronavirus cases as of Friday, with at least 114 residents testing posting in the span of one week, according to public health data.
As of Friday, there were 523 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the county, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. One week before, on June 19, the county reported 409 confirmed cases.
Iredell County also recorded its second coronavirus death of the week on Friday. The new death increased the death count from coronavirus, which causes COVID-19, to eight, according to the Iredell County Health Department.

North Carolina reported 22 new coronavirus-related deaths Friday, increasing the state's death toll to 1,197, according to data released by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
As of Friday, at least 13 Iredell County residents were hospitalized with coronavirus illness and 223 residents who had tested positive were isolating in their homes, health officials said.

The development comes as North Carolina reported 1,652 COVID-19 confirmations Friday, increasing the state's tally to nearly 50,000 cases.

Iredell County health officials are grouping cases into three regions of the county: North, Central and South. Here's a breakdown of where cases have been confirmed as of 4 p.m. June 19:
North Region (zip codes 27020, 27028, 27055, 28625, 28634, 28636, 28660, 28689 and 28678)
- 124 cases (up from 101 cases reported June 12)
Central Region (zip codes 27013, 28166, 28677)
- 213 cases (up from 160 cases reported June 12)
South Region (zip codes 28036, 28115, 28117, 28125)
- 175 cases (up from 148 cases reported June 12)
About 8 percent of the county's confirmed cases were children under 17 years of age, ICHD data said Friday. Most of the cases — about 40 percent — were of residents who were 25 to 49 years old.
The county's COVID-19 case tally is cumulative and, as of June 19, included an estimated 268 cases that are assumed recovered.
